Created by Duke University Professor Emeritus of French and Charlotte native, Linda Orr, the fund provides a high school student, who might not otherwise have the chance, a scholarship to continue language and culture studies abroad in the country of the student’s choice.
ELIGIBILITY FOR THE GLOBAL LIFETIME SCHOLARSHIPS
Applicants must be current Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools high school students.
Applicants must be 15-18 years of age at the time of the program (Note: Specific age requirements vary by country of interest).
Applicants must be eligible to travel abroad.
Applicants must be eligible for the Child Nutrition Services Free and Reduced Lunch Program.
Applicants must have completed one year of language coursework at the time of the program.
Applicants 18 years of age and younger, must have a guardian/parent sign the application in support of applicant.
Applicants must apply for AFS-USA Intercultural Programs. (The scholarship is contingent upon applicant being accepted by AFS-USA and partner country.)
Applicants must provide an Excursion Report upon returning from Study Abroad.
Applicants are encourage to attend the CMS Study Abroad Fair (Students can receive a $25 off coupon code for the AFS application fee by attending the fair.)
Completing the Application
Completed applications must be submitted by hand or mail no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, February 1, 2016. Foundation For The Carolinas will disqualify any applicant whose application is late or incomplete. The Committee will review the applications and select eight (8) finalists. The Committee will interview each of the finalists in the Spring and select one (1) scholarship recipient.
